++++ Breakdown Newsletter 7.0 +++ 31 March 1999 ++ Breakdown: http://fringedigital.com/brook + Discussion: http://www.egroups.com/list/breakdown ++++ In this issue: +++ Breaking News ++ What's New on Breakdown + Current List Membership +++ Breaking News 4AD records has reissued Cobalt Blue and Live at the Aquarium in a combined 2-cd edition. If anyone on this list has seen it, could they let us know if there is any bonus tracks or additional material (liner notes, nice design, etc.)? Even if not, it's nice to have these two very essential albums back in print. Cobalt Blue: http://fringedigital.com/brook/disc/cobalt.html Live at the Aquarium: http://fringedigital.com/brook/disc/live.html Virgin Records has released a new Julia Fordham compilation, including two tracks from the Brook-produced East West. I loved the understated East West, although I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea. Fordham is an interesting Canadian singer-songwriter, with a very unusual smokey voice. Now in RealAudio: Err from Music for Films III, and Diffusing from All Virgos are Mad. Err is a slower precursor to Ultramarine, and Diffusing appears to be a rough demo with a temporary drum track, but develops into something really beautiful. Slipstream: http://fringedigital.com/brook/slipstream If anybody has any other rare material I can add, please contact me. I'm particularly interested in the music video for "Breakdown", or perhaps even the infamous Echoes Living Room concert. Keep in mind, the material in Slipstream is streaming media: not save-able, not of broadcast quality, and not sold for profit. As such, it is my answer to the tape-tree debate that often resurfaces on the list. I've signed up as a CDnow "Cosmic Credit" sales affiliate, which means any purchases made via the links to CDnow from Breakdown result in a tiny bit of store credit for me. I've been against making a profit from Breakdown for almost two years now, but the notion of revenue sharing on the web has matured recently and I've reconsidered. I'm not trying to suck your blood - I don't even expect it to cover the costs of hosting Breakdown. If anyone objects to this feature of the site, please let me know, or even better, debate it in the Discussion list. If anyone is interested in the new issues raised by the revenue sharing trend, check out this site from GMD Studios: ReveNews: http://www.revenews.com + Current List Membership The Breakdown discussion list currently has 83 subscribed participants, up slightly from 81 as of the last Newsletter.
